Animal welfare is an increasingly urgent concern in urban environments, where stray animals often coexist with humans but are frequently neglected or misunderstood. In the Sudirman Park area, limited public awareness and a lack of clear and transparent communication have contributed to ongoing issues within the community, particularly regarding the presence and treatment of stray cats. This capstone project addresses the communication issue by designing a strategic public relations campaign titled “Paws & People: #OneEarthManyLives” with two main objectives, which are to raise awareness about animal welfare, especially stray cats around Sudirman Park, to protect ecological harmony, respect all living creatures, and coexist with one another; and to understand the audience’s perspective and sentiments regarding animal welfare, especially stray cats around Sudirman Park. The campaign uses a qualitative methodology based on Ronald D. Smith’s “Nine Steps of Strategic Planning for Public Relations”, with data gathered through interviews, observation, and secondary research. The result of this planning process shows that a well-targeted communication campaign, rooted in empathy, community relevance, and sustainability values, can successfully raise awareness and inspire tangible action in stray cat welfare. The campaign serves as a blueprint for other residential communities facing similar issues with stray animal populations.
