Crisis Communication At Badan Bahasa Addresing Women's Vocabulary Issues Through Digital Platforms.
This thesis examines the 2021 communication crisis faced by Badan Bahasa, arising from public controversy over the definition of "perempuan" in the Kamus Besar Bahasa Indonesia (KBBI). The definition was criticized for perpetuating outdated gender stereotypes, leading to widespread debate and misinformation on social media. The study analyzes how Badan Bahasa managed the crisis through digital platforms, using Coombs' Situational Crisis Communication Theory (SCCT), Benoit’s Image Repair Theory, Feminist Critical Discourse Analysis (FCDA), and Richard Herring’s Digital Crisis Communication Model. Interviews with key figures involved in the crisis response reveal that while the agency effectively used social media and its website to address the public, it faced challenges in managing misinformation and engaging critical stakeholders. The findings suggest that Badan Bahasa's crisis communication was largely successful but highlight the need for more targeted approaches to gender-sensitive issues and stakeholder engagement. Recommendations are provided for improving future crisis communication strategies, particularly in addressing societal concerns around gender representation in language.
