<note>The rapid development of digital currency and financial technology over the last decade has triggered vehement discussions around the world, concerning the nature of currency and future development trends. In the contemporary financial system, digital currencies are challenging the stability of traditional mediums of finance through the financial market. Digital currencies and blockchain technology revolutionize the efficiency and convenience of financial transactions. In the wake of the rise of digital currency, Indonesia, as the biggest nation in Southeast Asia, is one of the world’s most promising digital economy markets. However, spreading the influence of blockchain and digital currency in Indonesia holds certain challenges. The biggest challenge, perhaps, is that most people in Indonesia are still not familiar with the concepts of blockchain and cryptocurrency. As a result, the amount of risk in financial investment will increase, especially for investors with inadequate financial education, as they will be more vulnerable to the temptation of financial products that fall short of their own risk-taking ability. Therefore, a public relations program named “Blockchain 2020” was designed, by using communication theory and applying concepts from Ronald. D Smith’s 9 Steps of Strategic Planning of Public Relations (Routledge, 2017). Partnering with Huobi Indonesia and Huobi University, it aims to increase public awareness of blockchain and cryptocurrency in Indonesia, educating everyone about the benefits, challenges, and risks that can from the adoption of blockchain technology. This PR program uses blockchain conferences, offline meetups, online events, and promotion tools as parts of its strategic plan to successfully introduce, implement, and maintain blockchain technology in Indonesia.
