<note>Studies on self-employed mother has been conducted with different point of views in various countries all over the world, but rarely in Indonesia. This research is aimed to examine the self-concept formation process of self-employed mother based on Symbolic Interaction Theory. This research is limited by the profession of self-employed mother as an illustrator who lives in Jabodetabek. This profession chosen because it is one of desired job these days, but it is not appreciated by the old generation. This research applied qualitative approach with case study method. Self-concept formation process was utilized by interviewing the self-employed mother, her husband, and her parent and observing the digital society around her. This research is using self-esteem as a symbol that has an exchanged meaning. It consists of three dimensions, namely self-efficacy, authenticity, and self-worth. It shows that the self-employed mother is trying to look for her uniqueness to make her capable in the creative industry (self-efficacy), she is honest to the society about herself (authenticity), and she feels proud for managing the three roles simultaneously (self-worth). The findings of this research are the self-concept formation of self-employed mother is influenced by three factors. First, the ability to take role of the other through inner dialogue (self-talk/minding), in the form of self-reinforcement and self-management. Second, the problematic situation that influences the development of self, which is marriage. Third, the society around the self-employed mother, she has a good relationship with her family, larger society, and she is also influenced by the media (book).</note>
